Our Story

Since 2011, our region has worked collaboratively to strengthen birthing and children’s healthcare. Originally focused in the Central North region, the Network expanded in 2015 to include women’s healthcare as a priority population. In 2021, we received operational funding from the Ministry of Health to further develop and sustain the Network. In 2026, the WCHN expanded to include the Central South region, strengthening our reach and deepening regional collaboration.

Our partners include healthcare providers, community agencies, acute care hospitals, and patient and family advisors. We also collaborate with provincial partners including the Provincial Council for Maternal Child Health, BORN Ontario, Ontario Health – Central Region, and the Ministry of Health. Together, we are committed to advancing equitable, integrated healthcare access across the region.

Our Network prioritizes evidence-informed learning, meaningful and inclusive partnerships, and accessible services and resources. We recognize the complexity of the healthcare system and actively work to bridge gaps through collaborative, innovative initiatives that improve coordination, strengthen capacity, and achieve the best possible outcomes for women, children, and families.
